So let’s be honest with ourselves. Maybe some of those New Years resolutions have fallen to the wayside. But all hope is not lost! They say, “summer bodies are built in the winter”, and technically it is still winter, so there is still time!
I have always been a huge fan of working out outside. I much rather go for a run on a trail then on a treadmill. And in the past few years I have really fallen in love with doing the stairs. That being said, with the warm weather right around the corner, I am getting pretty excited!
Here are five quick tips on kick-starting your spring fitness routine!
1. UPDATE YOUR PLAYLIST
Okay, everybody loves a good throwback from time to time. But listen, you are one hip individual who is up on the current trends. It’s time to update that workout playlist girl!
If you are not fully “with it” as you may lead on in your social media. Then I highly suggest letting Apple Music or Spotify do the work for you. I am one of those people for sure! You can find some great playlists geared towards your music taste and workout tempo via one easy search.
2. DOWNLOAD A FITNESS TRACKER
I have been a fan of fitness trackers for a long time. For runs I use the Nike Running App. I love how I can see my route, take pictures and track my pace. Plus the added encouragement on the end is always delightful!
As for working out, I have been doing the Kayla Itsines Bikini Body Guide with some modifications. If you don’t want to pay for the guides you can find some great workout suggestions on Pinterest! I have always loved the quote:
When the student is ready, the teacher will appear.
3. TRY SOMETHING NEW
Trying something new is a great way to spice up your fitness routine. In fact, trying something new is a great way to spice up anything in your life! I have committed to trying a barre class this spring. Something I have never done before, but you never know!
4. JOIN A CLASS
Classes are the best way to leave all of your fitness woes behind. If you are worried about knowing what to do, it’s okay because the instructor will tell you! If you are worried you won’t be able to do something, there are often modifications. If you don’t think you can do it, I guarantee you will push yourself harder than if you were just on your own. The right class can do wonders for your fitness goals!
5. PLAN A SWEAT DATE
I am the first person to say yes, yes, yes to a dessert/tea date with a girlfriend. But why not take one of those and turn it into a sweat date? Sweat buddies keep us accountable and on track. Schedule a yoga class, a spin class, a zumba class or a trail run together. Find someone around your fitness level and make plans to hangout over a good ol’cardio session!
Going with a friend can also make the pressure of trying something new a little less intimidating. You are forging ahead together and can certainly laugh about it later. I went to the most ridiculous kick boxing class with my girl friend Tegan once. We pretty much got an ab workout from laughing at how outrageous the teacher was. Needless to say we never went back, but you are darn sure we had a great time anyways!
YOU GOT THIS!
Go ahead, get out there, and try not to be too judgmental of yourself. Grab a new piece of athletic gear and treat yourself to a healthier you this year. And remember, it’s still winter – you have time!
