Classic Black in the Summer
I love wearing fun floral prints and pastels during the summer months, but I truly feel at home in my clothes when I go for classic black – you cannot go wrong with black! Just because it is the summer doesn’t mean you shouldn’t be shy to wear the dark shade. In fact, you can even include floral designs and extra feminine signatures to a classic black look.
I tend to sprinkle black into my summer wardrobe throughout the months. Usually I try to push myself towards bright colours (you’re Canadian, don’t forget that “u”), but once I started thinking about it I asked myself, why? I just simply love wearing black! After all it is a go-to shade, is it not? There are so many perks to slipping on your favourite signature black piece. Black is slimming, comfortable and so versatile! As long as you select lightweight, cut out, or loose pieces for summer conditions, black will always work!
Plus, there is a reason why every woman should have a little black dress in their closet.
Black in the Summer vs. Winter
Wearing black in the summer however can be very different from wearing it in the winter. There are so many more options to play up a flirty style in the summer heat. We have the flexibility to select stylish cut outs, fits, and patterns. My favourite look to incorporate summer and black is the flowy floral dress found here.

One of the tough parts about wearing black in the summer however, is how it attracts the heat. Sometimes mixing black with the suns rays can force you to sing Nelly’s “Hot in Here” while just sitting on a patio! But this just plays into the idea of more styled pieces. I paired a light blouse with one of my favourite fully button up black corduroy skirts. I could never pull off a short skirt like this in the fall season because I am always so cold!
The Bag of the Summer – Gaia’s Ark
I then added a thick strappy heel and the bag of the summer the Cult Gaia, Gaia’s Ark. I decided to buy the natural ark because I know it will go with everything. Plus if I can manage to take care of it, I will have it for the rest of my life. Having it forever and passing it on is certainly the goal! Gaia’s Ark is one of those signature pieces I could not take my eye off as soon as I saw it. And seriously, I cannot tell you how many compliments I have gotten carrying this bad boy around. When someone comes up to me and is really curious I force them to hold it and see if it’s something they’d be interested in grabbing. Their giddy reaction is always the same! It’s hilarious because it’s the same reaction I had when I first opened up the box in the mail.
Also I have the *small version* of the bag and I think it’s the perfect size – I didn’t see a need to upgrade to the larger size. I think especially because this is a signature piece, it’s not meant for everyday functionality. Didn’t see the need to spend more dough on the look.
The great thing about signature, classic black pieces in the summer is, they also transition well into fall. When you find pieces you really love in a colour like black there is no holding you back from keeping it in your closet all year long. In those awkward months in between, when people are excited for fall layers but summer heat is still in play, black is the perfect transition.
