National Stripes Day | March 31st
I am someone who loves that everyday is “National Something”. The other day I got a notification in my inbox from one of my favorite retailers about National Stripes Day and my immediate reaction was, heck ya! I love wearing stripes! The only pattern more innocent than stripes is probably the polkadot. But I am sure the polkadot pattern has it’s own day. For now let’s focus on the stripes shall we!
Stripes & The Nautical Feel
It just felt so natural to shoot this look down by the water. The mix of classic white and a good ol’ wharf navy just gave off that nautical theme. With spring approaching the temperatures are slowly getting warmer. However, living in Canada we still have some chilly days to deal with in the spring. When I saw this rugby shirt in J.Crew I immediately knew I had to have it. I love the classic variety flavor and the hardy thickness of the layer. Because the shirt is cotton it is comfortable and warm down by the water.
Pairing Denim & A Riding Boot
Denim always feels like the right choice for me. This is one of my favorite pairs of jeans because of the button down front. My friends think I am ridiculous because I will hangout at home in jeans. Pairing denim with stripes just also seems like a natural decision because both give off a relaxed vibe. I jazzed up the look just a little bit with an older pair of high riding boots. The two neutral tones in the boots give the look a nice natural, classic palette. Plus I love how the elongated leg looks with the long buttons on the jeans.
Throw a Cardigan on it!
Whenever trying to layer up the easiest way to not look like you fell out of your closet is to pull a colour from the first layer. I chose to go solid navy on my outer layer. This sweater is so great because it doubles as a blazer and you can find it here. A relaxed blazer of course! I love how the collar can stand up around your neck or lay flat. For an added bonus, this cardigan also has two large pockets adding to the functionality of this look!
The Striped Closet
A few striped pieces I would love to add to my wardrobe! So many of the striped pieces I found were in navy and white. Thus, I really tried to mix it up in the slider below. But then again, you can’t compete with a classic.
Favorite Striped Bathers
Of course stripes don’t end at clothing! While making the last slider I ended up finding too many cute striped bathing suits to not make one for them alone! I think I am going to need to buy one of these cuties for this summer!
