My question to you today is, do you have a favorite summer outfit? Summer has officially arrived! And I know this because Canadians everywhere are peeling back the layers from hibernation – myself included!
But I don’t want you to run out to the mall to break the bank just yet! Today I will show you how to style a cute summer outfit in just three steps! Get ready to infuse some color and personality to your favorite summer looks. Keep scrolling…
- Start with a Neutral Base
You really want to start with your favorite neutral go-to’s. On top look for a simple top that flatters your figure. This step can be a block color or a fun pattern – totally up to you. On the bottom, denim is always a simple staple and works as a skirt or as a short (I love my denim uniform).
To pair your outfit well avoid wearing a pattern on the top and the bottom. What I am really saying is make up your mind girl! Seldom does the whole mixing prints idea work so stick with a solid top, patterned bottom or vice versa.
The base of your outfit is complete!
2. Infuse some color
Okay I think this is where we take a second to have a heart-to-heart about that winter closet. I need you to take a deep breath and accept that white, grey and black are not all you should have in your closet. It’s summer and it is time to pop and show off that personality!
If you want to ease yourself into the color trend try adding a punchy lipstick, nail color or kimono. Nothing gives me that boost of confidence like a fierce lipstick! And a complimentary kimono is light and easy to layer on top of a basic tank.
3. Jack that look up!
This is where your personality can really shine through. Personally, I love wearing a neutral shoe. However, you can always really pump up your look with some personality through your shoes. With this look I was being active on the beach so I stuck with my favorite black nike runner.
I find the easiest way to add some personality is through a pair of unique sunglasses, a purse or jewelry. I am a big fan of costume jewelry rings and vintage looking sunglasses. Because I have a longer face I find round frames look the best. What sunglasses fit you the best?
The city really comes alive this time of year and the best part about seeing everyone out and about in their summer style. Who doesn’t love jean shorts, flowy skirts and bright summer colors am I right! When putting together a simple summer look it is so important to always include your personality in the mix.
