The Matching Set or Co-ord

Why Co-ord Matching Sets Are Your Vacation Must-Haves

When it comes to packing for a hot weather vacation, one word can sum up your style strategy: co-ords. Co-ord matching sets are the ultimate game-changers for the savvy traveller, offering a blend of sophistication and versatility that’s hard to beat.

Not only do they effortlessly elevate your look, but they also grant you the freedom to mix and match, extending the functionality of your travel wardrobe. That’s a win-win for fashion-conscious wanderers!

Allow me to introduce you to my latest obsession – a divine matching set from the Australian brand Shona Joy. I’ve fallen head over heels for Shona Joy, and it’s easy to see why. Their pieces exude quality, sport captivating prints, and boast a uniqueness that’s a breath of fresh air compared to what you might find back home.

Over the years, Shona Joy has become my go-to destination for hot weather wardrobe staples. You’ll see my collection in action throughout this post because I always grab these pieces when going away first!

Dresses: The Ultimate Hot Weather Vacation Essential

When it comes to packing for a sun-soaked getaway, there’s one item that tops my list every time: dresses. They are, without a doubt, my go-to for hot weather vacations, and for some very compelling reasons. Not only do dresses effortlessly look chic, but they also offer a range of practical benefits that make them the ideal choice for your adventures under the sun.

Effortless Beauty

Dresses have an innate ability to make you feel beautiful without much effort. Whether it’s the flow of the fabric or the flattering cuts, they add an air of elegance to your vacation wardrobe. No need to spend hours curating outfits; just slip into a dress, and you’re ready to take on the day.

Airy and Breathable

One of the standout features of dresses, particularly in hot weather, is their capacity to keep you cool. They allow for air flow, preventing the stickiness that can come with high temperatures. The freedom and comfort they provide are unparalleled, making you feel at ease even in the most scorching conditions.

Pack-and-Go Convenience

Dresses are the ultimate space-savers when it comes to packing. They act as complete outfits in one, eliminating the need for multiple pieces that can take up precious suitcase real estate. This not only leaves you with more room for souvenirs (or shopping) but also simplifies your vacation preparation.

But, let’s get personal for a moment. I have a deep-rooted affection for dresses, and they’ve never let me down on my travels. They’re the canvas for creating diverse vacation looks, whether it’s a sundress for a casual beach stroll, a maxi dress for a romantic evening out, or a versatile wrap dress that can adapt to any occasion. Plus, they effortlessly transition from daytime exploration to nighttime elegance.

But dresses may not be for you! That’s okay the next option might be right up your street!

Cream + Black Dress

Mix and Match with a Colour Palette

If you’re aiming to be a style-savvy traveller on your hot weather vacation, there’s a genius approach that can effortlessly maximize your outfit options without overpacking: the art of mix and match. By curating your wardrobe around a cohesive colour palette and a standout patterned piece, you can create a rotation of outfits that goes the extra mile, all while avoiding too much of the “outfit repeat” conundrum. This can also mean a skirt or shorts – whatever you fancy!

Pattern Power

Start by selecting one patterned piece that resonates with your style and captures the essence of your destination. It could be a vibrant floral blouse (like mine above), a geometric-print skirt, or a tropical-inspired pair of shorts. This pattern will serve as your anchor, inspiring the colour scheme for your entire vacation wardrobe.

Colour Consistency

Once you have your patterned piece in hand, choose a specific colour palette that complements it. This palette will become your guiding light when selecting the rest of your clothing and accessories. Stick with a few key colours that not only coordinate with your pattern but also work harmoniously with each other.

Endless Combinations

The beauty of this approach is that it unlocks a treasure trove of outfit possibilities. With a consistent colour palette, you can mix and match your tops, bottoms, and accessories effortlessly. For example, that teal blouse from Day 1 can be paired with white shorts and a turquoise necklace for a fresh look on Day 3, and on Day 4, it could be tucked into a patterned skirt for a playful ensemble.

Packing Efficiency

Besides enhancing your style game, this approach also streamlines your packing. With a limited colour palette, you’ll find that most of your items complement each other, reducing the need to pack excessive pieces.

By adhering to a colour palette inspired by your patterned piece, you’ll achieve a sense of sartorial harmony that effortlessly extends your wardrobe options. This will help you put together outfits on a daily basis with ease and get you to the best parts of your vacation without worry.

So, whether it’s the azure blues of the ocean, the lush greens of the palm trees, or the vibrant hues of a local market, let your destination’s colours guide your fashion choices, and watch your vacation style reach new heights.

What Fabric Should You Buy for Hot Weather?

Ever since turning 30 I’ve come to learn how important it is to look at the clothing tag before purchasing. Through my experience these are the fabrics I keep my eye out for when shopping for my hot weather wardrobe.

Cotton:

  • Breathability: Cotton is a natural fiber that’s incredibly breathable, making it perfect for hot weather. It allows air to circulate and moisture to evaporate, keeping you cool and dry.
  • Comfort: The soft and lightweight nature of cotton ensures you’ll feel comfortable and relaxed throughout your sunny escapades.

Linen:

  • Airy and Lightweight: Linen is renowned for its airy and lightweight properties, allowing your skin to breathe. Its loose weave promotes ventilation, making it an excellent choice for tropical climates. Linen is my ultimate go-to fabric for hot weather and if you can find it in white you are winning!
  • Wrinkles Add Character: Linen tends to wrinkle easily, but those wrinkles give your outfit a relaxed, carefree charm, perfect for a vacation look. This never bothers me!

Chiffon:

  • Sheer Elegance: Chiffon is a lightweight, sheer fabric that’s perfect for a touch of elegance during your vacation evenings. It’s delicate and breathable, ideal for dressing up in the heat.

Seersucker:

  • Textured and Stylish: Seersucker is characterized by its textured, puckered surface. This texture keeps the fabric slightly away from your skin, enhancing airflow and keeping you cooler.
  • Low Maintenance: Seersucker’s natural wrinkles are part of its charm, so no need to fret about ironing.

Satin:

  • Shiny and Sumptuous: Satin may not be the first choice for scorching afternoons, but it’s fantastic for nights out in hot destinations. Its glossy surface adds a touch of glamour.
  • Breathable Lining: Look for clothing with satin linings; they prevent the fabric from sticking to your skin and allow for some airflow.

Silk:

  • Luxurious Comfort: Silk is renowned for its luxurious feel against the skin. It’s lightweight and naturally regulates temperature, keeping you cool in the heat.
  • Moisture Management: Silk can wick away moisture and humidity, making it an excellent choice for hot and humid climates.
  • *However worth noting that silk can be a culprit for sweat marks. I would opt for wearing your silk garments that don’t come in contact with your underarms. For example a lower cut dress or a skirt.

Athletic and Technical Fabrics:

  • Moisture Control: Fabrics like polyester and spandex blends, designed for athletic wear, are excellent for hot weather due to their moisture-wicking properties.
  • Quick-Drying: They dry quickly after sweat or a dip in the pool, ensuring you stay fresh throughout your activities.

Bamboo:

  • Eco-Friendly and Soft: Bamboo fabric is not only eco-friendly but also incredibly soft and comfortable. It’s naturally moisture-wicking and provides UV protection.

Choosing clothing made from these fabrics ensures that you stay cool and comfortable during your hot weather vacation. Whether you prefer the breeziness of cotton, the elegance of chiffon, or the laid-back vibe of linen, there’s a fabric for every style and setting.
