The Ultimate Turks & Caicos Travel Guide

I have now visited the incredible islands of Turks and Caicos two years in a row. With that being said, I think I have a great grasp on what to do, where to eat, and what to wear on your next tropical vacation. Turks and Caicos is a stunningly beautiful island, and there is so much to see and do even though driving from one end of Providenciales to the other will take you less than an hour! Oh, and if you’re like me, a Canadian, be prepared to drive on the opposite side of the road. Don’t worry, you’ll get the hang of it eventually!

Let’s first dive into where to stay, and then cover some really fun spots that will help you plan where to eat and what to do!

Where to Stay in Turks and Caicos?

When planning a stay in the stunning archipelago of Turks and Caicos, renting a Vrbo can offer a host of benefits that enhance your vacation experience. With over 2 million Vrbo properties available worldwide, you’re sure to find a perfect match for your needs in this tropical paradise.

Vrbo rentals in Turks and Caicos often come with breathtaking ocean views, private pools, and direct beach access, providing a luxurious and secluded getaway (You can actually filter for these options!). The comfort of a home-like setting allows you to unwind and live like a local, with amenities such as fully equipped kitchens for preparing fresh seafood meals and spacious living areas for relaxing after a day of exploring.

Moreover, Vrbo properties can accommodate groups of all sizes, making them ideal for family vacations, romantic retreats, or group getaways. Opting for a Vrbo rental not only offers a more authentic and personalized travel experience but also provides excellent value, especially when splitting costs among multiple guests. Whether you’re seeking adventure or tranquility, a Vrbo in Turks and Caicos is a versatile and cost-effective choice for your island escape!

The Vrbo’s We Experienced in Turks and Caicos

The Aesthetic Chalk Sound Dream

Vrbo 1: Sadly this home specifically is no longer listed on Vrbo but you can discover so many similar options by search for “Chalk Sound”. By searching Chalk Sound you are going to be little bit further away from the tourist area which adds a sense of privacy. This is great for a family who is looking to connect without any bustle. We had rented cars on the island and that made it super easy to travel around, go to excursions, grocery stops, restaurants, the Grace Bay area and more! Getting around is really simple on this island.

Canal Front Byculla Villa

Vrbo 2: FIND IT HERE: This Vrbo is for the group that loves water sports and to be in the middle of it all. This Vrbo sleeps 10 and is kitted out with a private pool, tiki bar, private boat dock with water sport equipment and more. Right on the canal you’ll wake up and feel right in the action of it all! You can also catch aquatic life like fish and turtles just out for a swim!

Villa Helios: Stunning Beachfront Villa + Concierge

Vrbo 3: FIND IT HERE: Of all of the Vrbo experiences I think I might say this one was my favourite. The place was beautiful, oceanfront and absolutely stacked with everything you will need from spices and kitchen amenities to a separate gym and all of the beachfront gear you could need.

This Vrbo is so well managed with a concierge and even has a separate living quarters downstairs. I picture this home being perfect for a full generational family to book and enjoy. I was lucky enough to be hosted in the Main bedroom and WOW the sunrise that soaks the room is energising and lovely. I loved how many people were out enjoying beach walks and out on the water. It made for an exciting stay while still being a private sanctuary all to our own!

Easy to Plan Accommodations Through Expedia

If renting a whole home isn’t your style, don’t worry—Turks and Caicos offers a wide variety of accommodation options to suit every preference. Whether you’re looking for the charm of a boutique hotel or the amenities of a larger chain, you can easily find and book your perfect stay through Expedia. From luxurious beachfront resorts to cozy, intimate hideaways, Expedia provides a wide range of choices to ensure your stay in Turks and Caicos is as comfortable and enjoyable as possible. With user-friendly search filters and a variety of deals, booking your island getaway is just a few clicks away.

Nestled under a canopy of palm trees, Cocovan and Coco Bistro offer a unique dining experience in the heart of Grace Bay. Cocovan, an airstream kitchen, provides a casual and fun atmosphere where you can indulge in gourmet street food, including their famous lobster tacos and truffle fries. I highly recommend the tuna tartar, duck tacos and the macaroni cheese balls!

Just steps away, Coco Bistro serves up a more upscale dining experience, with a focus on fresh, local ingredients and Caribbean flavours. The romantic setting, surrounded by lush gardens, makes it a perfect spot for a special night out. Both restaurants are a testament to the culinary diversity of Turks and Caicos, offering something for every palate. It was such a delight to show our group this spot and re-experience it myself! Cocovan never misses!

The ambiance at Bay Bistro is both elegant and relaxed, making it an ideal spot for a special dinner or a leisurely brunch. As you dine under the stars or with the gentle lapping of waves as your backdrop, Bay Bistro ensures a memorable dining experience that captures the essence of island living. To me Bay Bistro at night is giving beach hygge vibes!

What I Wore in Turks & Caicos

When packing for your trip to Turks and Caicos, think light, breathable, and comfortable (and colourful!!!). The island’s tropical climate calls for clothing that can keep you cool and comfortable under the sun and when night falls. Here are some essentials to include in your suitcase:

  • Beachwear: Swimsuits are a must for enjoying the pristine beaches and crystal-clear waters. Bring a couple of options for swimming, snorkelling, or lounging by the pool. Cover-ups, like sarongs or kaftans, are perfect for transitioning from the beach to a casual lunch.
  • Light Clothing: Pack lightweight and breathable fabrics like cotton or linen. Sundresses, shorts, and short-sleeved shirts are ideal for daytime exploring or shopping.
  • Evening Attire: While the dress code in Turks and Caicos is generally casual, some upscale restaurants and bars may require smarter attire. For ladies, a flowy maxi dress, matching linen set or a chic jumpsuit paired with sandals can be perfect, while men can opt for linen pants or chinos with a collared shirt with absolutely fit the bill.
  • Footwear: Comfortable sandals or flip-flops are essential for the beach and casual outings. If you plan on hiking or exploring rough terrains, bring a pair of sturdy walking shoes or water shoes.
  • Sun Protection: Don’t forget to pack a wide-brimmed hat, sunglasses with UV protection, and plenty of sunscreen to shield yourself from the strong Caribbean sun. You’re likely going to be squinting with out a great pair of polarised sunnies so make sure you have those ready at all times.
  • Accessories: A lightweight beach bag or backpack is handy for carrying your essentials, and a reusable water bottle will keep you hydrated throughout the day. If you’re planning on snorkeling, you might also want to bring your own gear. However if you don’t have enough room in your suitcase don’t fret because the tours are always prepared!
